Each year, Michigan State University enrolls more than 50,000 students, with thousands graduating at the end of the fall and spring semesters. Of those graduates, 64% choose to stay in Michigan, launching their careers and continuing their Spartan journey alongside nearly 300,000 fellow alumni who are already making their mark across the state.
MSU alum and artist Hannah Tizedes is turning art into environmental activism through her Michigan-based nonprofit, The Cleanup Club. Growing up near Lake Erie, she saw firsthand the plastic pollution on its shores. So she began transforming trash into beautiful mosaics, sparking conversations about the 22 million pounds of plastic entering the Great Lakes each year.

Michigan’s signature crop faces battery of threats: Cherries are the epitome of Michigan’s “specialty crop” production that also includes apples, asparagus and other fruit and vegetable crops. Altogether, the total economic impact of Michigan’s specialty crop industry is $6.3bn, according to Michigan State University.
