Preserving the habitat of China's beloved, and endangered, giant panda is as complicated as the panda is endearing.
An MSU research team joined with scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing and China's Center for Giant Panda Research and Conservation to study rates of destruction of giant panda habitats in the Wolong Nature Reserve using methodology that can be used in other regions.
These new approaches to understanding the nuances of the habitat integrated ecology with socioeconomics, human demographics and behavior.
The similarities in MSU's strengths in land use, sustainability and environmental sciences to China's research strengths also have made the new methods become reality.
