Students in the Jazz Studies Program in the MSU College of Music get a big-city experience that prepares them for their musical careers while studying what they love best – jazz.

This program comprises nationally and internationally renowned faculty members, drawn directly from the highest ranks of the international jazz community. All jazz faculty members have experience performing with well-known recording and performing artists in the music industry.

Students of jazz learn the art of improvisation and to trust their musical instincts. Along with the traditional ways of learning music, students are encouraged to learn with their ears and embrace the beauty in the music they create.
