LIR 860: Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. |

Prerequisite: LIR 824 or 858.
Negotiations take place every day between and among fellow workers, family members, friends and colleagues. The goal of this course is to change the way you think about negotiations, and develop your negotiating skills for use in organizational and other settings. The course is based on the assumption that negotiating is best learned through practice grounded in rigorous analysis and reflection. While theoretical principles and concepts from the various reference disciplines (such as linguistics, social psychology, and sociology) will be presented through readings and in class, this course will focus primarily on the application of these concepts for HR professionals. Class participants will not only enhance their individual abilities in a variety of situations, but also learn to analyze negotiating contexts for the most effective application of these skills.

LIR 826: Organizational Development and Planned Change. |

Prerequisite: LIR 823.
Organizational change projects are difficult and complex. Part of the reason for this is that change can occur at several levels: individual, group, and organization. Further, even carefully planned change has many unintended consequences. This class will introduce basic concepts and theories related organizational development and change, and provide opportunities for class participants to apply these concepts to organizational cases, analyzing organizations and designing interventions. The class will use a variety of strategies for learning, including analysis and discussion of readings & cases, class presentations, and videos. These interactive learning strategies will allow the class to build their knowledge of organizational development concepts and theories, and apply them to organizational contexts.
