Current Research: Asian American ManagersDescription of the Research ProjectThe purpose of this research is to gather data that will add to the research literature on Asian American managers' work experiences. Race and gender have been shown to be important factors in the work experiences of managers. The "glass ceiling" is a familiar example of this phenomenon. However, we have less research on Asian Americans. This is in part due to the smaller numbers in the managerial populations of U.S. organizations. Asian Americans have tended to be excluded from data collection and the research literature. This study will investigate the work experiences of Asian American managers (and comparable members of other groups) through interviews. These interviews will consist of questions that will ask you to describe your current work and work experiences, and will also ask you about the work experiences that have let you to this point. It is expected that an interview will take approximately 90 minutes, but more or less time may be needed. You may end or reschedule the interview at any time. Confidentiality Your privacy will be protected to the maximum extent allowable by law. The research requires that we discuss your work experiences, which will naturally involve personal information. I will record and transcribe our conversations; recordings and transcripts will be kept in password-protected files in a locked location. Recordings will be destroyed at the end of the study, and research reports will be written so that all individual identifying details will either be omitted or disguised. |
