Current Research: Active Michigan Retirees

Description of the Research Project

This study will investigate how active Michigan retirees make health care decisions for their ailing relatives requiring long-term care. Interviews with active Michigan retirees and their experiences of caring for relative(s) requiring long-term care will explore how these retirees negotiated with their relatives during the course of the care process, and will also explore how these experiences have shaped their assumptions, strategies and decision-making about their own health care needs in the future. It is expected that an interview will allow the interviewee to tell their own story, fleshing out the complexity of their situations and those of their relatives, as well as their thoughts about their future interests.

Confidentiality

The privacy of participants will be protected to the maximum extent allowable by law. The research requires that we discuss your experiences, which will naturally involve personal information. I will record and transcribe our conversations; recordings and transcripts will be kept in password-protected files in a locked location. Recordings will be destroyed at the end of the study, and research reports will be written so that all individual identifying details will either be omitted or disguised.
