As the premier land-grant university in the United States, MSU’s mission has always been to connect with and serve communities, in Michigan and beyond. MSU’s international work isn’t just about expanding knowledge, it’s also about strengthening Michigan’s economy, communities and future.
MSU recognizes Asian Pacific Islander Desi American, or APIDA, Heritage Month each year to celebrate the group’s diverse identities, histories and cultures. The nationally recognized APIDA Heritage Month is in May when most students are no longer on campus. This year, MSU observes this celebration between March 14 and April 15.
For many MSU health sciences researchers, addressing underrecognized issues and including undertreated communities in their work is essential to building a healthier Michigan where no one is left behind.

MSU medical students find out residency matches: Angela Thompson-Busch, associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development at the College of Human Medicine, commented on the success of this year’s Match Day, where graduating students receive their residency matches.
New sensor tech from MSU aims to revolutionize global bridge monitoring and maintenance: Nizar Lajnef, professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the College of Engineering, discussed new sensor technology from the university that will revolutionize global bridge monitoring and maintenance.
Micro metal-movers: Biochemists are one step closer to better cancer treatments: Kenneth Merz, professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry, and Jian Hu, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, both in the College of Natural Science, shared new research to identify the next generation of drug targets and cancer therapies.

MSU used an inclusive and comprehensive strategic planning process to create a shared vision for the future and a common set of principles and values to guide our work.
To recognize the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion as a foundation for university, MSU is using a comprehensive DEI planning process focusing on those values and working in collaboration with the overall strategic planning process.
The RVSM Strategic Plan stems from work by leading researchers and experts in the field to develop a plan for survivor services, prevention efforts, and climate and culture change initiatives.
