Education Abroad

Effective March 12, MSU has suspended all academic year 2019-20, spring 2020 and summer 2020 education abroad programs. This suspension also includes 2020 First-Year Seminars Abroad. The Office for Education Abroad is communicating directly with all impacted students, program directors, and partners. Students currently abroad have been advised to depart for the U.S. immediately and no later than Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Visit the Education Abroad website for additional information, including details on program withdrawal.

MSU is committed to making the following accommodations to facilitate the ongoing international admission process to MSU for students impacted by the new coronavirus. Questions or concerns regarding admissions should be sent to

  1. Application deadlines — MSU will allow students to apply through March 31, 2020, although we still encourage students to apply as soon as possible for maximum consideration.
  2. Receipt of transcripts — We realize that schools are closed in several countries until early March. MSU will continue to consider students whose documents arrive through the end of March. We strongly encourage students to have their schools send documents as soon as possible.
  3. English language tests — Due to cancellations of certain tests, MSU temporarily will be accepting the Duolingo English Test from applicants affected by these closures for students applying to begin their studies in summer or fall semesters 2020. In addition, MSU will be expanding the ability for students to receive provisional admission. If students are able to take a test that meets our regular admission standards prior to enrollment, we will update their admission status to regular.

Support for International Spartans

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) is closely monitoring the ongoing situation and how this global health issue may affect international students, scholars, faculty/staff members, and visitors. International Spartans should contact OISS directly to address their individual circumstances and questions.

OISS has transitioned to online advising via video conference or live chat, and walk-in hours are suspended. In-person appointments may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

OISS Survey on 2020 Spring and Summer Plans
OISS has created a survey for international students and scholars to help capture specific questions and concerns as the end of spring semester approaches, including housing and academic enrollment needs for this summer as well as plans for spring commencement. All affected students should participate, and OISS will reach out individually to those who fill out the survey.
