Our world is divided by water and land, but most prominently by misunderstanding. In today’s climate of religious war, political dissension, and ethnic division, we must take advantage of every opportunity to breach those gaps of cultural partition and gain understanding and appreciation of those different from ourselves. I am hoping to bridge the cultural gap between China and America through music.

Haobing Zhu is a doctoral student studying piano performance in the College of Music. A native of Wuxi, Jiangsu, China, Zhu teaches at the MSU Community Music School and was a 2013 recipient of the MSU Excellence in Diversity Award. Through her music, she hopes to connect with audiences in a way that brings about greater cultural understanding.

Faculty Adviser: Deborah Moriarty is professor of piano and chair of the piano area in the MSU College of Music.
