Bio

Kathy R. Petroni is Deloitte/Michael Licata Professor of Accounting and associate dean for Undergraduate Programs in the Eli Broad College of Business. Petroni is a lifelong Spartan. After graduating from Michigan State University with her bachelor’s degree in accounting, Petroni worked as a CPA for three years before pursuing her doctoral degree at the University of Michigan—always with the intent to return to and spend her career at MSU.

In addition to her leadership roles as associate dean, Petroni continues to teach and share her passion for educating young business students. Her thought-leadership in financial accounting and reporting has been featured in highly-cited publications in nearly all of the field’s premier academic journals, and she has edited or served on the editorial boards of the Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, and the Journal of Accounting & Economics. She served on the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC), the prestigious policy group for financial reporting standards in the U.S.

For her dedication to the MSU student experience, Petroni has received the MSU Distinguished Professor Award, Outstanding Master of Science Program Teacher, Multicultural Business Program Faculty of the Year, Executive MBA Professor of Excellence Award, and the John D. and Dortha J. Withrow Teacher-Scholar Award, among many others.
