Bio

Dr. Ray Schmidgall is the Hilton Hotels Professor of Hospitality Financial Management at the Eli Broad College of Business. Since 1975, he has served as the School of Hospitality Business’ resident expert in accounting and financial management.

Schmidgall has published over 250 articles, and he recently released the eighth edition of his Managerial Accounting for the Hospitality Industry. He speaks at several national and global seminars and conferences annually, ranging from the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) to the National Automatic Merchandising Association. 

He serves on committees of the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals and American Hotel and Lodging Association, and conducts seminars for CMAA and The Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals. He is a member of American Accounting Association, member and former president of Association of Hospitality Financial Management Educators, and the Council of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Educators International.

Schmidgall hosts the annual Hilton Lecture Series, which attracts hospitality experts to MSU every year. He received the Alumni Association Lifetime Academic Achievement Award, and the Faculty Member of the Year from the School of Hospitality Business. 

Prior to teaching, Schmidgall was the financial controller of the Educational Institute, American Hotel and Lodging Association, and worked as an auditor with Ernst and Ernst. He earned his MBA and PhD from the Broad College.
