March 10: Invitation to employee town hall on COVID-19 vaccines

On March 22 at 3 p.m., MSU Executive Vice President for Health Sciences Dr. Norman Beauchamp will join Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail and Sparrow Hospital Medical Chief of Staff-Elect Dr. LaKeeya Tucker to answer questions about local distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines in a town hall for MSU faculty and staff members. The panel will be moderated by MSU Professor of Strategic Communication Shawn Turner.

As COVID-19 remains a threat and Michigan expands access to vaccines to help end the pandemic, the health of our community depends on individuals making informed decisions. Highlighting Beauchamp’s expertise in health care, Vail’s experience leading Ingham County through the pandemic and Tucker's knowledge of the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines, this session will offer expert insight into the status of the pandemic, distribution of vaccines and development of the new Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Beauchamp is a health care leader in Michigan and oversees MSU’s colleges of Human Medicine, Nursing and Osteopathic Medicine as well as their clinical practices. He co-chairs MSU’s COVID-19 Task Force, which guides MSU’s efforts to keep Spartans safe and planning for a health-informed return to in-person activities on campus.

Vail is a trained microbiologist with a background in disease research. Leading the Ingham County Health Department, she advocates for public health awareness and compliance, and has guided the county through the COVID-19 pandemic since the first cases arrived in Michigan. She also was recently appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to the Public Health Advisory Council and the Protect Michigan Commission.

Tucker is physician who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology. She is the first African American to be elected chief of staff at Sparrow Hospital and is a clinical associate professor in MSU’s College of Human Medicine. She will discuss vaccine distribution plans at Sparrow’s mass vaccination clinic as well as the recently approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Employees may submit questions in advance and will be given the opportunity to ask questions of panelists live during the event.
