2013-14 School year

August 28, 2013: The first meeting for the 2013-14 school year will be in the upstairs lounge of Eustace-Cole hall at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 4. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend, regardless of previous quiz bowl experience. Please email us at cbowl@msu.edu with any questions.

Officials for 2012-13

April 30, 2012: We have elected our new officials for the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year. Mike Malloy will return to his previous post, and will be joined by Ben Johnson, Joe Nutter, Jordan Smith, and Connor Teevens. More information is available on our people page.

RESULTS: 2012 NAQT Michigan State Championship

April 17, 2012: Last Saturday we hosted the NAQT Michigan State Championship, with 23 teams from 15 schools from around Michigan competing. A divisional round robin was played in the morning, followed by a rebracketed round robin, with repeat matchups omitted. Ties were broken on half-packet matches. Congratulations to the top four teams, as they all qualified for NAQT HSNCT in Atlanta, Georgia. They are listed here with their overall and preliminary records:

  1. Detroit Catholic Central A (11-0, 5-0)
  2. Detroit Catholic Central B (9-2, 3-1)
  3. Detroit Country Day A (9-3, 5-0)
  4. Troy A (8-4, 3-1)

ANNOUNCEMENT: 2012 NAQT Michigan State Championship (4/14/2012)

March 25, 2012: Michigan State University's Academic Competition Club is proud to announce that we will be hosting the 2012 NAQT Michigan State Championship on April 14, 2012.

This tournament will be an untimed NAQT event, and will be using questions from [IS-116]. The field cap has yet to be determined and will be based on the number of staffers we have available, but only Michigan teams can participate. Registration will take place from 8:15 to 8:45, and we plan on starting matches at 9:00.

RESULTS: March Madness Invitational

March 24, 2012: Today we hosted our traditional March Madness Invitational, with 35 teams from 22 schools from Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio competing. A divisional round robin was played in the morning, followed by a rebracketed round robin for the afternoon playoffs. The top five teams were as follows (listed with their overall and preliminary records):

  1. Detroit Catholic Central A (10-0, 5-0)
  2. Detroit Country Day A (8-2, 5-0)
  3. Olmsted Falls (8-2, 5-0)
  4. Detroit Catholic Central B (7-3, 5-0)
  5. Ann Arbor Skyline A (6-4, 4-1)

RESULTS: Ninth Annual Rube Goldberg Invitational

January 27, 2012: Last Saturday we hosted our largest high school tournament ever, with 48 teams from 29 schools around the state competing. The morning matches consisted of a divisional round robin, with parallel brackets for the afternoon playoffs, followed by placement games for the top brackets. The top five teams were as follows (listed with their overall and preliminary records):

  2. Detroit Country Day A (10-1, 5-0)
  3. Northville (8-2, 5-0)

ANNOUNCEMENT: Ninth Annual Rube Goldberg Invitational (1/21/2012)

November 20, 2011: Michigan State University's Academic Competition Club is proud to announce the ninth annual Rube Goldberg Invitational, scheduled for January 21, 2012.

This tournament will be an untimed NAQT event, and will be using questions from [IS-113]. It will consist of a divisional round robin, followed by a re-bracketed round robin for playoffs, and each team can expect to play approximately 10 games. The field cap has yet to be determined and will be based on the number of staffers we have available. Registration will take place from 8:15 to 8:45, and we plan on starting matches at 9:00.
