MapSource version 6.13.7Garmin did a significant revision to the MapSource program from version 6.13.7 to 6.14.0. Major visible change was the rendering of the map images. While most folks find the updated map rendering 'prettier' than the previous version, it came at a cost. Map redraw performance on older, slower systems was noticeably slower, to the point of annoyance and frustration for many users. While not an issue with newer, higher performance systems with add-in video cards, the performance penalty is noticeable on many laptops, netbooks and older desktops.
If you have a 6.14.0 or later version of MapSource installed and find the slow map redraw performance a nuisance, then you can download the 6.13.7 version provided here and install it. 6.13.7 was the last version prior to the map rendering change. The release is highly functional and very stable.

Just download to your PC someplace, then launch (open) the program. In my experimenting simply running this 6.13.7 installer successfully replaced MapSource installations of newer versions. But YMMV, so caveat emptor...
Lastest Garmin version of MapSourceIf you have a fast system and want the latest, grooviest version of MapSource, then head on over to Garmin's MapSource download web page to download the most current version: Garmin MapSource download page.
The MapSource upgrades are free, but will only install if there's already a MapSource program installed. That is, you can only upgrade an existing installation with the downloaded installer, you can't do a 'virgin' install with it.

WinGDB3 utilityWinGDB3 is one very handy utility to have in your toolkit if you do much work with MapSource, routes and tracks. This powerful MapSource map utility does a number of handy functions, but two that I really like are:
- Convert a route into a track. Very useful for adding tracks of routes you intend to share with others so that they have a reference to check their routing against.
- Remove all those extra routing points you added to force a route so the route doesn't clutter up the display on Zumo, GPS V, probably some other GPSes. Also eliminates being prompted for those intermediate route shaping waypoints along the way when navigating the route.

Download to your PC someplace, then launch (open) the program to install the WinGDB3 utility.
