I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Telecommunications, Information Studies, and Media, Michigan State University. I am affiliated with the Games for Entertainment and Learning (GEL) lab and the Health and Risk Communication Center. I received my Ph.D. in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California in 2006 and joined MSU since then. My research focuses on the  psychological and social mechanisms of behavior change and their application in the design of interactive media for health and wellness promotion. I am interested in using digital games and mobile apps for health promotion, health education, and social change. My broader research area is the social and psychological effects of information and communication technology. Recently, I begin to explore the issue of persuasion in social media, mobile apps, and user generated contents. I received funding from  Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop and evaluate an exergame for young adults. My previous research projects have been supported by the Annenberg Communications Critical Pathways Dissertation Fellowship and the MSU Family and Communities Together Coalition Grant. I have won several top paper awards from the International Communication Association and the National Communication Association.
