Brian began playing rock and roll while attending Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and he has been playing in basement bands off and on ever since.  He earned his PhD in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991 while struggling to make the club scene in Boston.  Currently, he is the Main Street Capital Partners Intellectual Capital Endowed Professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Michigan State University. His publications have appeared in the Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Information and Organization, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Organization Science, Organization Studies, YouTube and elsewhere. He won the 2009 ASQ Scholarly Contribution Award, with Martha Feldman, the 2013 John D. and Dortha J. Withrow Teacher-Scholar Award from the Eli Broad College of Business, and the 2015-16 William J. Beal Outstanding Faculty Award from Michigan State University. He has dozens of original songs about technology, academia, and real life. All this, and still no recording contract.
