[Brief Background]

MSU PRE-SOMA was founded in 1999 as a premedical organization whose goals are to promote and to educate the public about osteopathic medicine and the philosophy of osteopathy. We host speakers on a variety of topics, all working toward a better understanding and acceptance of the osteopathic profession.

[What does Pre-SOMA have to offer you?]

Our organization offers a myriad of opportunities to our members. We have bi-weekly meetings where speakers from varying fields and specialties discuss osteopathic medicine from their viewpoints and personal experiences. In the past, our meetings have offered a variety of topics to help students in all phases of their undergraduate education. Meetings have provided advice to members on how to analyze where they are in the process of becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and what is the next step. Even if you are not sure whether or not Osteopathic Medicine is right for you, this club is still a great opportunity to give you the guidance you need while learning more about this ever-growing profession, not to mention our clinics and volunteer opportunities.

In addition to meetings, Pre-SOMA prides itself in the opportunities and programs we are able to offer during the year through our strong working relationship with medical students and professionals alike. Some of these events include bi-annual Medical Student for a Day events where you will see first-hand the extent of a day in the life of a medical student. Also offered are a variety of shadowing opportunities with practicing DO's, Student OMM (Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine) clinics, suture clinics, CPR clinics, and simulated patients! In addition, Pre-SOMA sets up a variety of special volunteer activities for our members to give back to our communities.
