Research

I am a doctoral student in electrical engineering and physics in the Plasma Theory and Simulation Group at Michigan State University.

My thesis research focuses on a phenomenon called multipactor which can occur in resonant electromagnetic structures. Multipactor occurs when a structure's geometry and electromagnetic fields are appropriately arranged, such that stray electrons can be accelerated into boundaries which can then eject additional electrons. Under certain resonant conditions, this effect can sustain itself or even grow. I create numerical models to simulate this phenomenon.

Another significant research interest is algorithm development for radar near field-to-far field transformations. In deployed radar systems, we typically receive a radar echo of an object at large distances, which we call the far field. However, when we are measuring the radar echo from objects in a lab or industrial setting, we are typically constrainted to be close to the object, which we call the near field. The radar echo in the near field can be very different than the echo in the far field, and there are many complications with estimating one of these quantities from the other. Similar complications occur with sonar and medical imaging.
