Dr. Christina Chan is a professor and the chairperson of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (ChEMS). Her lab is focused on investigating disease mechanisms using cellular, molecular engineering, and systems biology approaches—specifically, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress related diseases and the ways in which fatty acids interact with ER transmembrane sensor proteins to drive the development of cancer metastasis and neurological diseases. Based on this work, her lab is also developing therapeutics using engineering approaches (drug delivery systems, stem cell engineering techniques) to modulate the pathways altered in these diseases.
