Gerry M. McNamara is the John H. McConnell Professor in Business Administration in the Eli Broad College of Business. His research focuses on the effects of behavioral factors and organizational practices on organizational decision-making and risk-taking. He instructs undergraduate and graduate courses on strategic management and decision-making.
McNamara received his PhD from the University of Minnesota. Prior to MSU, he was a faculty member at the University of California, Riverside and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
McNamara’s research has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, the Journal of Applied Psychology, and the Journal of International Business Studies. Media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Economist, and Bloomberg Businessweek have cited McNamara on coverage related to mergers and acquisitions. McNamara currently serves as an associate editor for the Strategic Management Journal and was formerly an associate editor for the Academy of Management Journal.
The Western Academy of Management named McNamara the JMI Scholar of the Year, and he has been awarded best conference paper awards by the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society, and the National Business and Economics Society.
