Joseph Sandor is Hoagland-Metzler Chair in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management at the Eli Broad College of Business. He leads the college’s annual Purchasing and Supply Chain Management Executive Seminar and the Supplier Relationships Program, the ISM/MSU Leadership Awards, the Federal Government Supply Management Interface, the Executive Advisory Board, and the Broad Executive Summit.
Sandor’s 40 years of experience include responsibilities emphasizing cost prevention/reduction, team building, strategic supplier alliance formation, logistics optimization, inventory control, and cost modeling. His work has appeared in articles in CPO Agenda, International Journal of Production Research, Institute for Supply Management, Journal of Operations Management, North American Research and Teaching Symposium, and Supply Chain Management Review.
He is former president and CEO of Creative Procurement Strategies (CPS), where he advised Fortune 500 clients, including Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Rolls-Royce, Whirlpool, IBM, and Motorola. Prior to CPS, Sandor was chief procurement officer and director of corporate purchasing and logistics for the Sara Lee Corporation, responsible for nearly $12 billion in annual purchases.
Sandor earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and MBA from the University of Chicago. He has Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) and Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) credentials, and was an adjunct professor at The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
