Bio

Guowei Wei is an MSU Foundation Professor and professor of mathematics. His research centers around a relatively young field known as mathematical molecular bioscience and biophysics, and his work overlaps into departments such as biochemistry and molecular biology, and electrical and computer engineering.

Dr. Wei earned his Master's degree in physical chemistry from the Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of British Columbia in 1996. With a postdoctoral fellowship awarded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, he did research work at the University of Houston, where he became a Research Assistant Professor of Chemistry in 1997. In 1998, he joined the faculty of the Department of Computational Science at the National University of Singapore and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001. He came to MSU in 2002.
