Statement on new Title IX guidance, Sept. 22, 2017

Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced the rescission of previously issued Title IX guidance and issued new guidance. MSU leadership is reviewing this information. I will work closely with President Simon and key campus stakeholders to review and determine the impact on university policy and procedures. The ongoing third-party review of our Title IX program serves as an opportune time to measure our progress and compare our policies and practices against national best practices.

The U.S. Department of Education also announced plans to develop and implement policy through a rulemaking process that includes public comment. MSU is encouraged the Department of Education will seek public input and consider the concerns of stakeholders in the development of new policy.

Regardless of changing federal guidance, our position remains resolute: We remain committed to cultivating a safe and inclusive campus community that is free of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence.  As Spartans, we each play a role in fostering a culture of caring and respect at MSU. I encourage you to visit the Title IX Program website for updates, as well as ideas on how you can get involved and make a difference at MSU.”
