Aug. 19: Information for parents about housing

Dear Spartan Parents,

To clarify MSU’s ask in President Stanley’s recent email, this means we expect undergraduate students who planned to live in our residence halls this fall to stay home and continue their education with MSU remotely.

Please note: there will be exceptions for students who call MSU home, have on-campus employment specific to a degree program or other inflexible items. There will be a process to apply to live on campus for fall 2020.

Students who do not move to campus will receive a room and board refund for fall 2020, and students who have signed up for large-item drop off will have their $50 refunded by the end of the month. Students who have already had packages delivered will receive more information soon.

Again, it is our expectation that students who can live at home will live at home and not return to East Lansing for the fall 2020 semester. It is not intended for students to obtain off-campus housing — spring 2021 on-campus housing contracts are not canceled, so signing an off-campus lease is not advised.

Please keep checking msu.edu/together-we-will for the latest updates and information. Thank you for your patience as we continue to do our best to make decisions that protect the health and safety of the Spartan community.
