Aug. 31: Introducing the student mentor program and survey participation request

Dear Spartan,

Welcome to MSU! Wherever you are living this fall, we are very happy that you are a member of our community.

I am the Associate Provost of Undergraduate Education and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and I am here to help support you on your way to graduation. My staff and I are always willing to listen to your needs and do whatever we can to provide the support or resources you need. We offer programs that help students do well in classes, find community, grow a career, and become Spartan alumni.

I am reaching out to you today because the pandemic has forced us to work at home and in new ways. Therefore, we need to hear from you to make sure that we provide you the support you need.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself and let us know us how you are doing, where you are living, and what we can do to help you be successful this year:

First-year and transfer students will see information about a new mentoring program called Circles of Success. Participating students will be mentored by a professional faculty or staff mentor and a peer mentor. The professional mentors will provide guidance to support your academic and career goals. The peer mentors will provide you with the wisdom and knowledge of a current Spartan student that will help you navigate your first year. These mentors will engage with you through weekly social activities, weekly student success chats, monthly one-on-one check-ins, and ongoing group messaging.

Returning students will see that MSU’s student support programs –like tutoring, identity-conscious groups, career counseling, and academic advising –are all available online to help you. All you need to do is tell us what you need.

Thank you for introducing yourself to us and for helping us better support your success at MSU!
