Sept. 13, 2022: President Stanley's statement on Title IX certification to the state of Michigan

The Michigan Legislature approved language in the state boilerplate budget that requires all public universities to provide a certification that at least one university board member and the university president review all Title IX cases involving a university employee that concluded in a given fiscal year.

This started with the 2020 FY, and MSU has appropriately certified and submitted our reports for the 2020 and 2021 fiscal years. MSU is currently working on the report for 2022, which is due Sept. 30, 2022.

“I have faithfully complied with the state of Michigan certification process the last two years and reviewed all of the Title IX reports that were required. Contrary to information previously provided to me, in June of this year, I was notified that some of our board members may not have actually complied with their part of the state requirement. We asked for an internal audit and review on the situation, which showed that we could improve the processes by which the reviews were taking place.  An external consultant is helping us improve these processes and keep us in compliance. We have been taking this issue seriously.”
